The speaker introduces the research activities on multigrid and related numerical methods that were conducted in Kyoto and Hokkaido Universities. He explains for the detail of one of these activities, which focuses on high-performance high-frequency electromagnetic field analysis based on FEM. A parallel multigrid solver for the analysis was developed on a parallel distributed memory computer. The main issue of the research was in the parallelization of the AFW smoother in hybrid parallel programming model. A new hybrid parallel ordering technique was proposed, in which domain decomposition and block multi-color orderings were effectively utilized. An approximately 800 million DOF problem was successfully solved in 250 s.
