International Educational Use
The Information Technology Center, the University of Tokyo (hereafter, "the Center") provides a part of its supercomputer resources free of charge for use in a wide range of educational activities, such as university and technical college classes. The Center permits the use of the system by individuals residing outside Japan (hereinafter referred to as "non-residents") under certain restrictions, and we also accept applications for educational use that include non-residents. Since the conditions of use and required documents differ from those of the standard Educational Use, please refer to this page before applying. Applications must be submitted at least one month prior to the preferred start date. Please allow sufficient time for the application process.
Information
- If the target users are residents of Japan (including foreign nationals), please refer to the Educational Use.
- The maximum usage period is up to one month after the end of the lecture or similar activity and cannot extend beyond the end of the current fiscal year.
- The service cannot be used during maintenance periods. In addition, during the Large-Scale HPC Challenge period, jobs cannot be run on systems used for the challenge.
- "Applicants" may consist of one or multiple individuals, and one "Representative Applicant" must be designated. Those responsible for preparing teaching materials or conducting lectures/exercises must be included among the Applicants. The Representative Applicant does not necessarily need to be a resident or a person who does not falls under Specific Categories under the deemed export controls.
- "Participants" refers to individuals who attend the educational activities listed in the application form and those among the Applicants who will use the Center's supercomputer to prepare teaching materials or conduct lectures/exercises.
- All applications will be reviewed by the Center's Supercomputing Committee, which will decide whether to approve or reject them. The review process may take up to one month. Please allow sufficient time for the application process, taking this into account.
Eligibility Requirements
- At least one of the "Applicants" must be a faculty member of the Center who does not falls under Specific Categories.
- "Participants" must comply with "Terms of Use for Supercomputer Systems of the Information Technology Center, the University of Tokyo"
- Any changes in the affiliation or organization of a Participant must be promptly reported to the Center.
- The purpose of use must be educational in computational science or computer science and must not involve research and development or commercial activities.
- Consideration must be given to the protection of human rights and interests.
- Compliance with the the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology guidelines on "Initiatives for Bioethics and Safety" (Japanese version only) is required.
- Compliance with the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry guidelines on "Security Export Control" (Japanese version only) is required.
- The representative must write a report article for the Supercomputing News (Japanese version only) published by the Center without delay after the usage period ends.
- When publishing results obtained under this program in papers or other media, it must be clearly stated that the Center's supercomputer was used under this program, and the Center must be notified.

- No later than one month before the start of the usage period:
- Registration List (Excel format) containing information on all "Participants"
- Immediately after the lecture or event ends:
- Pledge forms signed by both the "Representative Applicant" and all "Participants" (original or PDF format)
